Some of the Vineyard’s youngest residents spent the fall exploring various Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation properties. The MV Family Center, a MV Community Services program that supports and connects Island families with young children, partnered with SMF for a series of thematic Monday morning outings. This collaborative program, called “Out and About,” was originally scheduled for the month of September, but due to its popularity has continued through October and November.

Family Center Program Coordinator Kim D’Arcy explained that she connected with SMF Director of Stewardship Kristen Geagan at the Family Center and the two started talking. “We realized that we shared a similar goal, which was to introduce families to locations and properties on the Island that they otherwise might not go to on their own,” said D’Arcy.

On Monday mornings, families visited a new SMF property and explored a different theme. Since Kristen went on maternity leave , SMF Land Conservation Assistant Noah Froh has been leading the program, which on average attracts 8-10 families per week.

The topics have ranged from turtles at Cedar Tree Neck to Birds at Sheriff’s Meadow Sanctuary to acorns at Quansoo Farm.
