Storybook Walks
Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation offers two unique self-guided Storybook Walks that combine the joy of reading with the beauty of nature—encouraging children and families to explore the outdoors together.
Sheriff’s Meadow Sanctuary
At Sheriff’s Meadow Sanctuary in Edgartown, the Storybook Walk is curated by the Edgartown Public Library and features a new children’s book each month. This walk is designed for young families with children in kindergarten or younger. The half-mile loop follows a flat, stroller-friendly trail with boardwalks, making it easy and enjoyable year-round. Middle Road Sanctuary
At Middle Road Sanctuary in Chilmark, the Storybook Walk was developed in partnership with the Chilmark Public Library and is located along the Red Trail– a loop just over one mile long. This walk is geared toward elementary-aged children and offers a more adventurous outing, with uneven terrain and forested paths. It’s a great way for older kids and their families to getoutside, get moving, and connect with nature and stories! The story changes seasonally, about every three months, inviting families to return throughout the year for a fresh experience. View trail map.
