This summer Sam Hoyt served as the Henry Beetle Hough Intern.

Upon returning home to West Tisbury, following his freshman year at Northeastern
University, Sam was awarded the Henry Beetle Hough (HBH) internship. This year, the HBH intern worked primarily with Catherine Hall in the Advancement Department and played an integral role in coordinating the Annual Summer Benefit. Over the course of the internship, Sam was able to experience Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation through a variety of lenses. He spent time learning about donor relations, development, community outreach, finance, nonprofit management, and stewardship. Sam will be returning to Northeastern this fall to continue his studies in Business Administration and Corporate Innovation. He believes that his time spent at SMF has helped him to gain more insight into the nonprofit sector and provided him with opportunities to expand his network of island connections. His favorite part about working for SMF was experiencing the many sides of the organization and seeing how each department works together to achieve a common goal. Sam’s organizational and administrative skills have drastically improved since joining SMF and he looks forward to utilizing these skills upon his return to school. When asked what his favorite property was that he visited this summer, Sam said Sheriff’s Meadow Sanctuary and Little Beach “because they are so close to town, yet still offer a peaceful space to enjoy nature and wildlife unique to Martha’s Vineyard.”
