Project Description
About Ames Preserve
Hours: Dawn to Dusk
Enjoy meandering through oak woodlands, sassafras trees, and a beech grove on this 13-acre preserve located off Chappaquiddick Road. The Ames Preserve is composed of parcels donated by David and Elizabeth Ames. With help from generous Chappaquiddick residents, Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation and the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank Commission jointly purchased the Lewis Wood property from the Ames family, providing the missing link to connect the Slater Preserve to the Land Bank’s Brines Pond section of Three Ponds Reservation and the greater Cross Chappy Trail.
There is no parking at this property, but you can access it by walking from the Slater Preserve or the Land Bank’s trailhead at the Chappaquiddick Community Center.
